Ingredients

For the caramelized onions

For the sliders

  • 28 ounces ready cooked pulled pork (800g)
  • 2 tablespoons salted butter (melted)
  • 12 brioche slider buns
  • 12 slices havarti cheese or any other sliced cheese

Instructions

For the caramelized onions

  • Slice the onion and place the butter and oil in a skillet on a medium high heat.
  • Once hot, add the onions with a little salt and pepper. Cook for 10 minutes, then turn the heat down to medium.
  • Cook for around 20 more minutes, stirring occasionally til caramelized.
  • Set to one side.

Make the sliders

  • Lightly oil a casserole dish and pre heat the oven to 360F / 180c.
  • Heat the pulled pork as per the package instructions, or if using homemade, heat in a pan on the stovetop for 10 minutes til warmed through.
  • Melt the butter and set to one side.
  • Slice the brioche rolls in half and place the bottom halves in the casserole dish.
  • Top with slices of havarti cheese and spoon the caramelized onions evenly on top.
  • Spread over the pulled pork and top with the remaining slices of cheese.
  • Place the top half of the buns on top and brush lightly with butter.
  • Cover tightly with foil and place in the oven for 25 minutes til the cheese has melted and the tops of the buns are slightly toasted.

Notes

  • Don't separate the slider buns when you put them in the casserole dish. If you do, the filling can fall between the gaps and the buns will get soggy.
  • Grease the casserole dish well before adding the buns so they are easy to remove once they are baked.
  • When baking, wrap foil tightly over the whole casserole dish. This will help to keep the filling nice and juicy.
