My personal life is pretty hectic right now - we have just moved from the UK to Canada! Very exciting, but unfortunately I haven't had much time for the blog. Over the next few weeks, some of my blogger fiends will be taking over Slow The Cook Down and sharing some of their delicious recipes! First up is the lovely Michelle from Giraffes Can Bake with her French Mule Cocktail - how amazing does this look?!
Hey lovely Slow The Cook Down readers! I'm Michelle and I blog over at Giraffes Can Bake. You might recognise me from Betty's kitchen, drinking wine and making delicious noms on camera! I'm not always drinking wine in the kitchen, but I am always making delicious treats, and proving gluten free does not mean healthy by any means! I also like to play my hand at mixology and that's what I did for you today, a really easy and fun take on the Moscow Mule - its European cousin, The French Mule Cocktail!
The Moscow Mule Cocktail is a classic, and it's a classic for a reason - it's easy, delicious, and has very few ingredients. And as much as I love the classic version, I do love to switch things up too. The French Mule Cocktail has the same ingredients as it's Russian cousin (are Moscow Mules even from Russia?!), with the addition of the classic French aperitif - Cointreau. Cointreau is an orange flavoured liqueur and really makes this French Mule Cocktail shine!
Another great think about this French Mule Cocktail is it's really easy to mix, the only special equipment you need are copper mugs, which are a very worthwhile and cheap investment if you like to mix drinks at home! You just fill your copper mugs half way with ice, pour in the spirits and fresh citrus juices and stir to chill and combine. Pour over your ginger beer, and garnish with a slice of orange and lime - and voila, your French Mule Cocktail is ready to party! I like to use ginger beer as I like the spiciness, however if you prefer your mule cocktails on the slightly milder side, you can also use ginger ale.
All Mule Cocktails are served in copper mugs, or at least they should be. It's not just because they're pretty, the copper mugs play a big part in the final taste of a Mule Cocktail. The vodka oxidises with the copper giving it a distinct taste, and the copper keeps the ginger beer very bubbly, and last of all, the copper keeps the drink cold! Nobody likes a warm cocktail! While you can enjoy this French Mule Cocktail in a glass and it will still be yummy, it won't be quite as good. So, if you're a fan of all types of Mule Cocktails, I totally recommend investing in a few copper mugs. You can get some decently priced ones online, just make sure they're solid copper or, at least, lined inside with copper so you get the proper benefits.
So, hands up, who wants one (or three) of these French Mule Cocktails?! Orange, lime, and ginger - you can't go wrong!
