I'm not one for following trends, but when I first saw dalgona coffee I just knew I had to make it! Of course, it wouldn't be a Slow The Cook Down classic if there wasn't a bit of booze in there!

Coffee and Baileys go together so well, and this easy sipping cocktail would be a great after dinner drink or an easy way to add some booze to you breakfast! Jokes, of course!

If Baileys is your tipple of choice, be sure to check out my Baileys Candy Cane Cocktail.

    What is dalgona coffee?

It might sound fancy, but basically coffee is whipped with equal measurements of water and sugar until it forms a foam. It is then poured over warm or cold milk and stirred together. It creates a wonderfully light drink. It originates from Korea and became famous thanks to Tik Tok (a social platform I am far too old to deal with!)

    Frequently Asked Questions

Can you make it ahead of time?

This cocktail is best served as soon as it's made so that the whipped coffee stays nice and light and airy.

Do you serve it warm or cold?

Dalgona coffee can be served over warm milk or iced. Because of the addition of baileys, I decided to make this drink ice cold, with lots of ice cubes. If you fancy, you can use warm milk and stir the Baileys into it.

What type of coffee is best to use?

The best coffee to use is standard instant coffee, nothing fancy here! I used Nescafe, but you can use your favorite brand. Fresh ground coffee beans won't work. You can use a decaf instant coffee if you prefer.

What's the best milk to use?

I used whole milk for this drink so that it is really nice and creamy, but any milk will work well. Make this drink vegan by using coconut, oat, almond or another dairy-free milk.

    Recipe Notes and Tips

    • You can whip the coffee together with an electric whisk or by hand. Whisking it by hand will take around 7 or 8 minutes and it's a good work out!
    • Stir the drink before enjoying it so that the coffee is all through the drink, not just sitting at the top.
    • I like to garnish the finished cocktail with some grated chocolate.
    • The recipe is easily doubled and tripled, just keep the ratio of the coffee, sugar and water the same in a 1:1:1 ratio.
    • Make it non-alcoholic by simply skipping the Baileys.

Absolutely my kind of Dalgona coffee. I've seen so many pictures of it out there recently, but this is the only one with my favourite creamy tipple in it. As for TikTok ergh, I know nobody my own age on there doing fancy dance routines etc ... , so it's not one I'm getting involved with either.
