This green apple vodka recipe is an easy to make flavored vodka that is infused with ginger. A delicious ingredient to use in cocktails, it takes minutes to make and made with just three ingredients.

This recipe is a bit of a bonus one, I've been working up an idea for a new cocktail, and needed some apple vodka for it.  Our local booze store is amazingly stocked with all things alcohol related, but I couldn't find any apple-flavored vodka, so I decided to make my own!

I used this homemade infused vodka to make this Spiced Rum Cocktail with Apple Vodka recipe.

    Make your own infused vodka

Making flavored vodka at home is super easy and straight forward, and it's a great way to add interest to your cocktails.  The infusions that you can make are never ending, from berry infused vodka to bacon infused vodka to skittles vodka, which I made for favours at our wedding! All you need is a mason jar and a little patience and you can be mixing like a pro!

What is in this green apple vodka?

There are just 3 ingredients needed to make this flavored vodka:

    • Green apples: I used golden delicious but granny smith will also work well. For a slightly sweeter taste, you can use honeycrisp apples. Cut into apple slices or chunks, there's no need to peel them.
    • Fresh ginger
    • Vodka: Your favorite brand
Vodka being poured over green apples

How to make green apple vodka

For this infused vodka, I used green apples and ginger.  Simply cut the apples and ginger into chunks, put in a sealable glass jar, and then pour your vodka of choice over the top.  I used Iceberg vodka as it has a very clean taste to it, and Tito's Handmade Vodka is also a great choice. Seal the jar, and then pop in a cupboard for 3 to 4 days to let the flavours develop. Once ready, strain the vodka through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth, and it's ready to go!

Does infused vodka need to be refrigerated?

Whilst the vodka is infusing with the green apples and ginger, keep it in a cool dark place - a kitchen cupboard is fine.  Once it's made, you can store in a fridge, freezer or cupboard - it won't effect it's flavour, just keep it out of direct sunlight.  If you are making this for shots, frozen would be my storage of choice!

    How to strain infused vodka

For this green apple vodka, because the chunks of the ingredients are quite big and don't really fall apart, I just used a fine-mesh sieve to strain it.  If you are using soft fruit or candy, a cheesecloth works best so that you aren't left with bits in your drink!

Homemade Green Apple Vodka with Ginger

I find buying flavored vodkas from the store to be a bit hit and miss. They tend to be on the cheaper side and not as smooth and they can also quite sickly sweet.  By infusing vodka at home, you are using natural ingredients, and if you use a good vodka, you won't get that artificial taste.

    Recipe Variations

I infused this apple vodka recipe with ginger, but you can use other aromatics like cinnamon sticks, fresh mint leaves or lemon wedges.

Top tips to make this green apple vodka

    • Ensure that your apples and ginger are fresh for the best flavors.
    • Use your favorite vodka, something with a clean taste works the best.
    • Ensure that the apples and ginger are fully covered by the vodka, and when the apples start to brown, strain it.
    • While the vodka is infusing, store it in a dark place.
    • The strained vodka has a long shelf life so feel free to make a bigger batch!

Hi! Made this apple-ginger infused wodka with a quick maceration technique : stuff wide-neck bottle with finely diced granny smith apples and equally fine sliced ginger. I also added juice of a lime, to avoid the apples turn brown. Fill with wodka to the top, close lid firmly and put the bottle in a high kettle, that allows water up to an inch under the lid. Heat water to 135°F to 160°F (57.2°C to 71°C) for (1 to) 3 hours. Works out best with a sousvide heater you can attach to the pot I plunged in a thermometre every 15 minutes. Leave the bottle to cool slowly on the counter overnight. In the morning, put in the fridge to chill. Sieve out all solids. Serve chilled with ice, or mixed with schweppes or cola

Infusing alcohol is one of my guilty pleasures, so I'm always on the lookout for new flavours to try out. Green apple reminds me of the Jelly Belly flavour, so I fell for this recipe quickly. It's so good in cocktails.
