I still remember the first time I had shredded pork, smokey and tangy and extra juicy, and quite honestly there is no bad time for it. If a pulled pork poutine is on the menu, I am all over that!

These pulled pork sliders are simple to build and they are a great option if you are feeding a crowd. Super fun to make and eat, plus I use a little short cut which means you don't have to spend hours in the kitchen! They are one awesome party appetizer.

These mini burgers are hands down delicious. Caramelized onions add a pop of sweetness and stringy cheese is never ever a bad thing! These are a sure fire hit!

Why you will love this recipe!

    • Easy: This is a pretty straight forward recipe, but so impressive to serve. Just caramelize the onions, layer the ingredients in the brioche slider buns, and bake.
    • Great for a crowd: Whether you are hosting game day or a holiday party, these are a great option as you can easily make up a big batch and let everyone dive in.
    • So tasty! Seriously guys, these are so very very good! If you order sliders at your local bar on the regular, you are going to love this homemade version.

    Ingredients

    • Onion: Along with the pulled pork, we add caramelized onion to these sliders. They take a little patience, but it's totally worth it!
    • Pulled pork: To make this recipe a little quicker and more convenient, I used a store bought BBQ pulled pork that is already cooked, shredded and sauced, so it just needs heating up. If you have a favorite from scratch pulled pork recipe you like, then absolutely use that.
    • Buns: I love to use brioche slider buns for this recipe as they have a little sweetness to them, but any slider buns will do the job well.
    • Cheese: I used slices of havarti cheese which has a slight tang with a nice creamy flavor. You can use whatever cheese slices you like, sharp cheddar or mozzarella both work great.

    • Warm the the shredded pork.
    • Make the sliders by layering the buns, cheese slices, onions, pork, more cheese and topping with the buns.
    • Brush with melted butter, cover with foil and bake.
    • The bottom half of the slider buns in a glass casserole dish.

    • Pulled pork spread on top of the onions and cheese.
    • Cheese slices placed on top of the pulled pork.
    • The top of the buns added to the sliders and ready to be baked.

    Recipe Variations

These pulled pork sliders are easy to adapt to suit your own tastes. You can use a shredded chicken or beef in place of the pork and mix up the cheeses. Use different sauced shredded pork (I used BBQ maple), or even serve these in full sized burger buns rather than sliders.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Can you make them ahead of time?

These oven baked sliders are best built, cooked and served fairly close together so that the buns don't get soggy. The onions and be caramelized several hours ahead of time. You can build them an hour or two before you want to cook them as the cheese will help to prevent the bread from getting soggy.

    Can you reheat leftovers?

If you do have any leftovers, they will keep well for a couple of days covered in the fridge. To reheat, place them into a preheated oven at 360F and cover with foil, for 10 minutes to warm them through.

Why do you have to bake the sliders?

Although the pulled pork and the onions are both cooked, so you can just pile in the fillings if you like, baking helps to keep the buns from getting soggy. It also adds a nice texture and the flavors of the brioche buns is more intense.

    Serving Suggestions

These pulled pork sliders are a great appetizer to serve on their own, or serve them up with sides like fries, red cabbage slaw or even some mac and cheese. I do like to pop over a little garnish of fresh parsley to add a bit of color and freshness.

    Recipe Notes and Tips

    • Don't separate the slider buns when you put them in the casserole dish. If you do, the filling can fall between the gaps and the buns will get soggy.
    • Grease the casserole dish well before adding the buns so they are easy to remove once they are baked.
    • When baking, wrap foil tightly over the whole casserole dish. This will help to keep the filling nice and juicy.
