Why you will love this recipe!
- Quick: It takes minutes to make the patties with a few ingredients and they are super quick to cook. Perfect for a weeknight dinner.
- Easy to adapt: If you are sensitive to spicy foods, you can easily make these milder so that they are perfect for the whole family.
- Dietary info: These Mexican taco burger patties (without buns and toppings!) are gluten-free, dairy-free, low carb and keto friendly.
Ingredients
- Ground beef: Lean ground beef is the healthiest option, but beef with 20% to 30% fat will yield tastier and juicer burgers.
- Taco Seasoning: Use your favorite taco seasoning, store-bought or homemade, for those unmistakeable Mexican flavors.
- Pickled Jalapenos: Jarred jalapenos are perfect to use in these burgers. Dice them finely for a real kick of heat.
- Lime: Lime zest adds a zingy freshness. Don't use the juice as this can make the burgers too wet.
- Cilantro: For a fresh herby taste. If you don't like cilantro, use parsley instead.

Frequently Asked Questions
I love the rich flavor of these beef burgers, but any ground meat will work well. Chicken or turkey are great healthier options that are lower in fat.
Thee taco burgers are pretty spicy, but the heat is balanced out with the sour cream and guacamole toppings. The heat comes from the jarred jalapenos, so simply use less, or leave them out completely, if you are sensitive to heat. You can also use a milder taco seasoning, or, add a little cayenne to make them super spicy!
I love the ease of cooking the burgers in a grill pan on a stovetop. Just add a littel oil, let it get hot, add the burgers and cook through, flipping once. You can also oven cook them at 400F / 200c for around 15 minutes, or in the air fryer, at the same temp, for around 10 minutes. In the summer, be sure to pop these on the grill to cook!
Serving Suggestions
These Mexican taco burgers are great to serve with potato and salad sides, try them with some of these favorites:
Make Ahead, Storage and Reheating
You can make the burger mixture 2 or 3 days ahead of time and keep it covered in the fridge til you are ready to cook and serve.
Once cooked, the burger patties can be kept for up to 4 days, covered in the fridge, and you can reheat them on the stovetop, or in the oven or air fryer.
Uncooked burgers are great for the freezer and will keep well for up to 6 months. Make the burgers into patties, and separate each one with parchment paper. Place into a freezer bag or safe container. Thaw frozen patties in the fridge overnight before cooking.
Recipe Notes and Tips
- Mix together the burger ingredients with your hands so that everything is well combined. Don't over mix though, as this can lead to chewy burgers.
- For a burger with a milder heat, skip or reduce the amount of jalapenos.
- Let the beef come up to room temperature before cooking them. This will keep them nice and tender.
- Let the burgers rest for a couple of minutes before serving them so that the juices have chance to redistribute throughout the patty.
- If cooking on a grill or the stovetop, don't have the pan on a super high heat or the outside of the burger will be cooked before the middle is done.
These fun spicy taco burgers are a delicious way to enjoy your favorite Mexican flavors. Quick and simple to make, they are perfect for a quick meal and don't skimp on taste!
