Turkey bacon is a great alternative to regular bacon, and for those that don't eat pork for religious or dietary reasons, it's a tasty way to enjoy this breakfast favorite.

Cooking turkey bacon in the air fryer is a real game changer; quick and easy and no mess, plus it doesn't heat up your kitchen which is very much welcome during the warmer months!

Why you will love this recipe!

    • No oil: Unlike if you cook bacon on the stovetop, you don't need to cook it in any added fat to get it perfectly crispy.
    • Less mess: Air fryers are crazy easy to clean, and it's much cleaner than having oil splattering on your stovetop. Everything is all contained in the air fryer basket and base, so you just have to pop them in the dish washer or rinse out with dish soap to clean them.
    • Healthier: Unlike stovetop frying and oven baking, any fat drips away from the bacon so it's the healthiest way of cooking it.
    • One ingredient: You just need the turkey bacon and you are good to go!
    • Dietary info: Turkey bacon is gluten-free and low carb.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Is turkey bacon healthy?

Turkey bacon is lower in fat and calories compared to pork bacon, so if you are looking to loose or maintain weight, then this is a great option. However, turkey bacon is processed and it is high in salt, sugar and preservatives.

As with regular bacon, it's best not to eat this everyday for breakfast, but absolutely, go ahead and treat yourself on the weekend!

Can you use regular bacon instead?

Absolutley! If pork bacon is your thing, then the method and timings remain exactly the same.

Does turkey bacon need oil to get crispy?

If you cook this in a skillet on the stovetop, you will need about two tablespoons of oil to cook the turkey bacon evenly and get it nice and crispy. When cooking it in the air fryer, you don't need any oil at all and it gets perfectly crispy.

    Is turkey bacon pre-cooked?

Because of the way it's processed, turkey bacon does look a bit like deli meat, but it is not cooked and should not be eaten raw without cooking.
You can pre-buy fully cooked turkey bacon, but it will clearly state it on the label.

    Storage and Reheating

Cooked turkey bacon will keep well in the fridge for up to 4 days. You can eat it cold or reheat it quickly in the air fryer at 400F for 1 to 2 minutes.

It can also be frozen, let the cooked bacon cool and then freeze it solid on a baking sheet before transferring to a freezer bag or container. It will keep well for up to 6 months. Thaw it in the fridge overnight before reheating.

    Serving Suggestions

Serve up your turkey bacon with a side of scrambled or fried eggs, a slice of toast and any other of your breakfast favorites. It can also be added into recipes like:

    • Bacon Blue Cheese Pasta Salad
    • Bacon and Cheese Stuffed Toast
    • Blue Cheese Bacon Mashed Potato
    • Bacon & Egg Muffin Cups

Cooking turkey bacon in the air fryer is so quick, simple and easy. I love the fact that you don't need any oil but it comes out perfectly crispy. The clean up is a breeze too and that's always a bonus!

    Recipe Notes and Tips

    • Preheat the air fryer before adding the bacon, this helps it to crisp up. If you don't have a preheat function on your air fryer, let it run at 400F for 5 minutes before placing it in.
    • For best results, place the bacon in a single layer without overlapping.
    • If you are cooking more, it's best to cook it in batches rather than piling it in the air fryer basket. You can keep the cooked bacon in a warm oven while you cook the rest.
    • My turkey bacon was perfectly cooked after 8 minutes. Air fryers can run slightly differently, so adjust timings if needed.
