Bacon wrapped sweet jalapeno poppers are packed full of salty, spicy and sweet flavours to make your tastebuds tingle!  These easy to make appetizers are made with just 5 ingredients and are a real crowd pleaser. A delicious twist on classic jalapeno poppers, they are perfect to serve throughout the holidays.

    Jalapeno poppers with a twist

Jalapeno poppers are one of my go to party foods, what's not to love about them?!  I've wanted to do a blog post for ages, but there are so many recipes out there!  There are bacon wrapped, barbecued, deep fried, breaded....the list goes on! I got the idea for adding sweetness to this classic party food when I made my Blueberry Grilled Cheese (if you haven't tried it yet I strongly recommend you do!), that balance of salty, sweet and spicy is just divine!

How to make bacon wrapped sweet jalapeno poppers

These appetizers are so straight forward to make! First up, prep the jalapenos by cutting them in half and deseeding them and then mix the cheeses, jam and black pepper together in a bowl. Use a spoon to spoon this mixture into the jalapeno halves, wrap bacon round them and then into he oven. Easy peasy!

Can you make them ahead of time?

These sweet jalapeno poppers are perfect for when you are entertaining  as you can prep them ahead of time.  Stuff the peppers and wrap them with the bacon, and then pop them into the fridge until you are ready to serve them. They are best served straight out of the oven rather than be reheated.

How hot is a jalapeno pepper?

I love spicy foods, but often think I can handle a bit more heat than I really can and i'm left reaching for the milk!  Jalapeno peppers are spicy, but they are super mild, even those who can't stand spicy food will be able to manage these! They give more of a buzz of heat rather than am all consuming 'I'm on fire' type of heat!  You can read more about the spice of different peppers in this article I found.

    Are sweet jalapeno peppers healthy?

Now,  I'm not going to tell you that my sweet jalapenos poppers, that are stuffed full of jam and cheese, are healthy for you, but they are low in carbs and one popper comes in at around 70 calories.  They are perfect party food, so you can happily enjoy a couple pretty guilt free!

Top Tips To Make Bacon Wrapped Sweet Jalapeno Poppers

    • Use a good quality bacon, one with not tonnes of added ingredients.
    • Omit the bacon to make these vegetarian - they will still be delicious I promise!
    • Use a teaspoon to scrape out the seeds of the jalapenos.
    • Cook the jalapeno poppers in a pre-heated oven to get the bacon nice and crispy.
    • If making ahead of time, follow instructions up to wrapping in bacon, and then store covered in the fridge for up to 6 hours.

This recipe sounds amazing & I really want to try it but it’s really hard to find blueberry jam where I live. What would be a good jam flavour substitute please?

Hi there! Any berry jams would work great with this - strawberry or blackberry would both be delicious!

Hi Lana, I used shredded cheddar, but any melted shredded cheese like that or mozzarella will work well. Enjoy!

The poppers taste great!! I had a hard time finding Blueberry jam, so I got preserves. I didn’t like the chunks of Blueberries, so I may try grape jam next time.

So glad you enjoyed these Cat, they're one of my favorite party foods! Grape jam will work wonderfully, it's that great mix of salty and sweet that really make these poppers.....POP! Thanks so much for the comment 🙂

I love that you added jam to these poppers! I think it really helps balance the spice of the peppers really well.
