fresh ingredients for a green salad dressing

A nice quick and easy salad dressing recipe for you all today! It's still super hot and humid in Toronto (can you believe we are looking forward to the cold weather?!), so some days it's best to opt for a salad.  I eat salads all year round, they are are great way of getting the goodness in, but what is a salad without a super creamy dressing?! This dressing works really well with my Grilled Lemon and Herb Chicken Salad.

How To Make Green Salad Dressing

This salad dressing really couldn't be any easier to make! Just prep the ingredients and put everything in a food processor or blender. Blend until smooth, check the seasoning and adjust to taste.

How long does homemade salad dressing last?

Once you have made the dressing,  sealed jar in the fridge and it will be good for 3 - 5 days.

Homemade Green Salad Dressing for a healthy option

Salad dressings are what transforms a plate of leaves into something yummy and full of flavour.  I relied on the store bought dressings for years, thinking it was an easy option, but all you need is a good blender, fresh ingredients and 5 minutes!

The store bought dressings are full of salt, sugar and preservatives, and can easily make a salad a less healthy meal than you were expecting (just check out this article if you don't trust me!)! This green dressing tastes so much fresher and way less processed. Ditch shop bought this week and whip up a batch!

What goes in to Green Salad Dressing?

The base of this dressing is sour cream, lighter and less fatty than a mayonnaise with a zingy flavour.  Avocado adds to the creaminess and fresh lemon juice cuts through.  I only went for one herb, parsley, in this dressing - I know a lot of people out there hate cilantro! Garlic and spring onions and to the depth of the dressing and it's finished off with a couple of jalapeños for heat and that extra zing!

Low carb, vegetarian & GF dressing and easily made vegan

This is a perfect dressing to make if you are having friends over or are looking for a pot luck idea. It's vegetarian. low carb and gluten free so suitable for most diets - to make it vegan, simply sub the sour cream for a plant based variety.

If you are looking for a salad to use this dressing on, check out my Raw Salad, it will work really well!  I added chickpeas to my salad when I had this, and that complimented wonderfully.  You can also use this as a dipping sauce - quesadillas anyone?!
